Magic realism. Magic realism, patchwork, velvet and suede. Rodarte’s signature look always feels quite dreamy, 1970s and romantic (think intricately detailed romantic dresses and piles of velvet). Their new & Other Stories collaboration is very Rodarte-y, too, and an excellent way to buy into this season’s trends, much in the same way Balmain x H&M was a good way to dress like Jourdan Dunn for a fraction of the price. This suede cropped jacket isn’t cheap but it does combine two of our favourite SS16 motifs: toy fur (see House of Holland) and suede (Balmain, Victoria Beckham and Courrèges). The shape is boxy-meets-heritage Chanel, too, so it looks as expensive as it is.
The rest of the collection is worth a mention, if only for tapping into every other spring trend – Loewe-style patchwork, wearable slip dresses à la Céline and Stella McCartney, and outdoors pyjama tops (see Olivia Von Halle) in rich, earthy shades. It’s also quite Vinyl, if you’re watching that. See? Something for everyone.
