The Irishman left the Hoops for Leicester in February before Lennon returned to secure the treble Treble before being rewarded with the job on a permanent basis.

He told BT Sport: "I think I said to Neil Lennon, or maybe Scott (Brown), three months ago that this team has got something special.

"It hasn't quite reached fruition yet, but as we proved against Rennes, that was a severe beating, and we didn't have a lot of our first-team players.

"Three Scottish boys, young Scottish boys scored, if we keep playing the way we are playing then I don't think anybody can stop us.

"They are playing sweet football, not all that tippy-tappy around the back four like it used to be, going backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards, across the back three or four.
