Rod Stewart sings at wedding of couple whose plans derailed by Thomas Cook collapse

Singer Sir Rod Stewart surprised a couple whose Las Vegas wedding was almost ruined when Thomas Cook went bust a week before they had been due to tie the knot.

But Sharon Cook and Andrew Aitchison, from Liverpool, had their dream day saved by Sir Rod, who gave a free performance after they wed at Caesar's Palace in the US.

Their day was rescued by a complimentary flight from Delta airlines and a stay at the hotel, the 3 News Las Vegas site reports.

They had spent more than a year planning their dream wedding.

But the dramatic collapse of Thomas Cook on Monday last week, with overwhelming debts, threatened to scupper their plans.

They were so upset when they couldn't secure a refund, they phoned the Vegas hotel direct. Caesar's Palace were more than happy to help and called in a favour from Delta airlines, who flew in 14 friends and family members from Heathrow on Sunday, three days before the ceremony.

Andrew told the Metro: "On Monday, we lost everything for our dream wedding in Vegas.

"Then Wednesday morning Delta called to say they would help us.

"They brought our dream back. It's been incredible."

They were given VIP treatment, flying first-class, picked up in limousines and upgraded to penthouse suites.

The final surprise was the special performance by Sir Rod as they were at the altar.

Sir Rod is performing in Vegas until October 5th, after finishing a UK tour earlier this year.

His residency which is called Rod Stewart: The Hits originally premiered at the Colosseum at Caesar's Palace eight years ago.

The couple will also watch is show on Friday in Vegas for a double treat.
