Rod Stewart shares cheeky jibe to Elton John as he still 'loves' him despite 55-year feud

Sir Rod Stewart took to social media to tell Elton John that he still loves him after mocking him at a recent concert.

The Maggie May singer shared a clip where he can be seen mimicking the way Elton, 75, plays the piano. Rod, 77, had on a dramatic pair of perfectly round sunglasses which were covered in silver sequins, a nod to the Rocketman singer's eccentric fashion statements.

Rod then proceeded to stick out his teeth and pull a serious face as he pretended to bash out a tune on a piano as he reignites their 55-year feud. After sharing the clip to Instagram, Rod backtracked as he penned "Still love you, Elt. Rod xxx," in the caption.

Fans loved the cheeky jibe aimed at Rod's 'frenemy' after the pair's decades long sparring battle. "Hmm wonder if Et will have a response lol," one user said while another added: "Omg im going mental laughing Rod so cool." One user posted: "K don't make that face Rod," along with a laughing emoji.

Elton and Rod had a very public falling out back in 2018 after the Do Ya Think I'm Sexy singer took to US television to say Elton was 'money-grabbing' for starting a 300-date farewell tour. He added that it was 'dishonest' and claimed the mammoth tour 'stinks of selling tickets', but their feud kicked off long before then.

Rod previously said he looked on Elton as a 'fierce enemy' but described their jibes as starting out at a 'playful' level before their relationship really turned sour. When Rod held his Blondes ‘ave More Fun Tour in the 1970s, Elton made sure billboards were plastered on the opposite side of the street that read: “But Brunettes make more money”.

In another incident, Elton hired a sniper to shoot down blimps Rod had hired to promote his music. In the paperback version of his 2019 autobiography Me, Elton dedicates an entire chapter to his dislike of Rod and there are some incredible digs at him along the way.

After the Hoops-daft singer made the harsh comments about Elton, the Your Song icon took to his autobiography, Me, to hit back at him. Putting pen to paper, he recalled: "I certainly didn’t feel like I needed a lecture on the feral spirit of rock and roll from someone who’d spent most of the last decade crooning his way through the Great American Songbook and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas."

"I thought he had a f***ing cheek, complaining about me promoting a tour while he was sat on a TV show promoting his own tour," Elton wrote. "I had no idea what I’d done to upset him so much, which was ironic, given the hours I’d put in over the years deliberately trying to annoy him."

When the book came out Rod made an apology, "She (Elton) doesn’t like me at the moment. I was bang out of order. Correct, but bang out of order," he told reporters. Rod blamed his loose tongue on TV producers plying him with too booze before the show.

Thankfully, in 2021, Rod apologised to Elton in order to set a good example for his eight children. He said: “I say to my kids, ‘A man apologises, go and apologise to your mother’. We’ve just made up as friends again, me and Elton. We’ve always been fierce enemies, as you know, through the years, but it’s always been at a playful level. But we had the worst row, like a married couple. It went on forever."
