Rod Stewart's wife Penny Lancaster started menopause in lockdown after confusing it with virus

Penny Lancaster has revealed she started menopause during lockdown after confusing her symptoms with coronavirus.

The 49-year-old, who is married to rocker Rod Stewart, 75, admitted she was worried she had caught the deadly bug after waking up with terrible night sweats.

The model told the Loose Women panel she grew concerned after her temperature kept soaring up and down - before realising her last period was in March.

She also said she began to suffer from bad dreams and weight gain - which are symptoms of menopause women suffer as they reach their mid 40s.

Penny shared with the panel: "I had a dream that my little one drowned, woke up in a complete panic and was getting these severely hot sweats and thought I was going to pass it to the family."

She added that she realised it was not Covid-19 but that she was going through 'the change'.

Penny explained: "I started the menopause, I had my last period in march so I am at that age now."

She also admitted how Rod is dealing with her symptoms and how hard finds it to manage the change in her hormones and mood swings.

Penny said: "Well you probably know from the past conversations, we have a very close and intimate and close relationship I speak to him how I feel in the lead up to my periods."

Detailing how she is struggling, the star shared: "One day I was cooking in the kitchen and everything went wrong and I ended up throwing the dinner and screaming."

Sharing how her sons and Rod tried to comfort her, she added that they rallied around her but she added: "I try to explain to the boys and Rod but I don’t understand myself."

Rod had originally been isolating with his family at their mansion in Florida but has since jetted back to his home in Essex.

Penny celebrated her 49th birthday just before lockdown with family and friends.

Rod, who was forced to cancel a string of gigs due to the pandemic, threw a glitzy bash in Las Vegas just before measures in the US were introduced.
