Rod Stewart's neighbours angry that council only repaired his potholed road

Sir Rod Stewart's neighbours are on the war path after potholes in the rock legend's street were repaired while ones near their houses have been left untreated.

The local authority seemingly responded to a video that Sir Rod posted on Instagram of him and a group of men trying to fix the damaged road close to his home in Harlow last month.

But, with officials having now ensured that the 77-year-old Maggie May singer's pothole problems have been resolved, upset nearby residents are suggesting that Sir Rod has received preferential treatment.

One said online: "Funny how that one is being fixed sharpish after a superstar spoke out. What about all the others?"

Another posted: "The roads are getting a joke with the amount of holes, ours haven’t been fixed still."

Essex County Council said they had inspected the road that Sir Rod was filmed on and agreed that it was in need of repair.

A spokesperson explained: "Patching work was done in April and resurfacing will be done in July. We must get to our roads as quickly as we can within the financial constraints."

Previously, in response to the video, the council had urged members of the public not to carry out their own repairs with a statement adding: "While we would like to prioritise repairs to every road, the scale of our network means this is impossible and we have to focus on repairing defects likely to be most detrimental."

Sir Rod caused a stir when he posted two videos of himself and a group of men he described as "the boys" shovelling rubble off the back of a truck to fill big potholes.

In both, he was wearing a hi-vis jacket and an Adidas tracksuit and trainers.

The first clip began with him singing while working before he explained: "I'm repairing the streets where I live because nobody can be bothered to do it."

In a second video, he elaborated: "This is the state of the roads near where I live in Harlow. It's been like this for ages with people smashing their cars up.

"The other day there was an ambulance with a burst tyre and my Ferrari can't go through here at all. Me and the boys thought we would do it ourselves.

"We're filling in the holes, while millions and millions of pounds are being spent on the M11 thingummybob over there." He then signs off with a little dance.

Sir Rod's post was captioned: "Working for a living, filling holes is good for the soul!" At the time, the videos were greeted with a rush of positive comments from fans and one local said: "Legend Rod! That road is a nightmare!!! Appreciate it."

Fellow rocker, Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, also simply added: "Bravo Rod", while one fan warned: "Don't hurt yourself. I got tickets to see you in June."
