Rod Stewart's hit You’re In My Heart isn't about Celtic says singer's ex-lover

Britt Ekland has slammed former lover Rod Stewart saying his 70s smash hit You’re In My Heart is about her - not his beloved Celtic.

The 78-year-old - who starred as a Bond girl Mary Goodnight in The Man with the Golden Gun in 1974 - said that the classic song was written about her when she and Rod were dating in the 70s.

Previously, Sir Rod, now 76, said that the song was about the Hoops, a team he has supported since he was a lad.

At one point, Britt Ekland threatened to sue Rod saying that she was the inspiration behind some of his biggest hits, from his 1977 album Foot Loose and Fancy Free, which includes the songs Hot Legs, You’re In My Heart, and I Was Only Joking.

The lyrics of the song include ‘You’re ageless, timeless, lace and fineness…You’re beauty and elegance.

“You’re every schoolboy’s dream…You’re Celtic, United, but baby, I’ve decided…You’re the best team I’ve ever seen.”

The former model and movie star said: “Rod Stewart wrote You’re In My Heart about me but when we split, he said it’s about Celtic FC.

“We had met backstage at his show in LA that I went to with Joan Collins and it was love at first sight.

“We were together for about four years but I made it clear that if he was unfaithful then I wouldn’t stay - he was so I left, no matter how painful it was.

“A man is a man no matter what his name is.”
