Rod Stewart pays tribute to Celtic icon Billy McNeill in touching Twitter post

Rock superstar Sir Rod Stewart has joined devastated Celtic fans in paying tribute to Hoops legend Billy McNeill

The 79-year-old died after a long battle with dementia plunging the worldwide Celtic community into mourning. 

Billy captained the world-renowned Lisbon Lions squad to victory in the 1967 European cup. 

One of the club's most famous fans, Sir Rod Stewart took to social media to pay tribute to his 'friend' who was 'one of the best Celts ever'.

'We've lost Mr Celtic' Bertie Auld pays emotional tribute to pal Billy McNeill  

Late last night he posted on Twitter: "Hail Hail Cesar!

"Farewell my friend, Billy McNeill. 

"And farewell one of the best Celts ever."
