Rod Stewart offers SPFL cash bail out as rocker poses league reconstruction question

Football daft Rod Stewart has perhaps finally taken his hobby a little too far as he offered to BAIL OUT financially stricken Scottish clubs.

The Maggie May singer had his tongue firmly in his cheek when he made the claim during a sparky conversation about Scottish football with Ally McCoist on talkSPORT.

Sir Rod was quizzing the former Rangers boss on league reconstruction and whether a 14 team top flight could work when he made the astonishing claim.

McCoist said: "I do think it will happen, the carrot has been dangled in front of them for league reorganisation and I think there will be no relegation.

"The only unfortunate thing is that it works its way all the way down the pyramid again where the two teams that would play-off to get the opportunity to come into the league won't get that oppurtunity.

"It's going to upset some people but the secret is to upset as little people as possible."

Stewart responded: "I read there are some teams that are struggling to get a team out due to contract problems."

McCoist admitted that concerned him and although there are financial issues now mounting up in most businesses, the situation in Scottish football was becoming dire.

He said: "I read that. Neil Doncaster said it's a serious, serious issue financially.

"It is everywhere and we are appreciative of that fact but Scottish football in particular and he's already talking about they might need a government bail-out."

Never short of a word, even McCoist and Brazil's seemingly endless supply of patter was silenced and replaced by laughter when Stewart jokingly replied: "Well, I will bail them out!"
