Rod Stewart 'misses' Elton John and has offered an olive branch to end feud

Rod Stewart has offered an olive branch in his feud with Elton John, saying he misses him.

The pals' fell out almost four years ago when Rod said Elton’s retirement tour "stinks of selling tickets".

But asked on a US TV show to share a public message with Sir Elton, 74, Rod replied: "Love you baby.

"Just good luck and I am so bloody annoyed that you have a Number One album."

The Maggie May star, 76, told viewers: "I miss him. He just had a hip op so I do wish him well. We still love each other."

The pair have not spoken since Elton rebuffed Rod’s offer to let his sons play on his football pitch.

In November 2020 Elton said he was ready to end the disagreement for Christmas.

But Sir Rod, promoting his new album The Tears of Hercules in the US, told reporters they now speak only through interviews.

He said: "I put something out there and it will be in the evening papers and he’ll say something in our morning papers. That is how we fight our battles."

The singer said his offer to have Elton’s two sons play on his football pitch did not get a response. He added: "We have not spoken since."

Asked why, unlike Elton, he has never owned a football club, Rod replied: "Because I have got more sense."

Elton had promised to send Rod a card and ideally give him a "big hug" but admitted: "In the end I just sent an email to his assistant.

"It said: 'I wanted to be p****d at first but we’ve known each other for so long it’s water under the bridge. Who cares? Good luck with your new album'."
