Rod Stewart makes wacky Rangers title claim as he interrupts Alan Hutton's retirement interview

Rod Stewart interrupted Alan Hutton's retirement interview to joke the only way Rangers can win the title is to sell Alfredo Morelos and re-sign the former right-back.

Hutton announced he's decided to bring down the curtain on his playing career in live talkSPORT interview during which he also insisted Rangers will stop Celtic winning 10-in-a-row.

Hutton's assertion prompted Celtic fan Stewart to text host Jim White with a light-hearted prediction of his own.

The 75-year-old musician joked that binning Morelos and bringing back Hutton was the key to Steven Gerrard ending Celtic's dominance.

He wrote: "Jim hi, the only way Rangers can stop ten in a row is to sell Morelos and bring Alan Hutton back into the back four."

Former Scotland international Hutton took the dig in good humour and hit back with a quip of his own.

The 35-year-old replied: "Rod goes to all the games, you see him with the tartan on with the green through it, the works. Somebody has to support them!"

That prompted a more magnanimous response from Stewart as he wished Hutton well following his big decision.

He said: "Loved you when he played for Scotland, not so much when you played for Rangers. Wish you all the best for your retirement."
