Rod Stewart is back in Newcastle - fans arrive at his first Tyneside show since 2013

Rod Stewart never fails to pull in the crowds.

The singer , whose back catalogue packs five decades of hits, plays his first Newcastle gig since 2013 tonight.

He returns with another number one album, Blood Red Roses, which topped the charts after it was released in September.

Fans braved the rain to walk to Newcastle Arena on a drizzly Tuesday night to catch Rod's return.

His indicate he will play a mix of old and new, as well as his ever popular covers.

It's quite likely he'll kick a few footballs into the crowd too.

The star picked a band of Scots to perform alongside him after they impressed him with their full-on shows.

Johnny Mac and the Faithful are a seven-piece Glasgow-based set-up playing Celtic-folk and Americana whose members have played and worked with such names as the Pogues' Shane MacGowan and Simple Minds.

Rod is set to take to the stage at around 8.30pm.
