Rod Stewart goes on vocal rest following previous gig cancellations

Sir Rod Stewart might be set to play Glastonbury next month, but the singer is currently on vocal rest.

Sir Rod, 80, is on his One Last Time tour, where he will play 40 shows across the world before the end of the year.

And he’ll hit Worthy Farm in June, with the coveted Legends slot at Glastonbury.

But the rocker is taking care of his vocal cords, as he was seen after his performance at Milan’s Unipol Forum on Saturday with a sign around his neck which read, according to the Independent: “Sorry. Cannot talk. Having vocal rest.”

Earlier on his tour, he had to cancel three shows in January - in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Lincoln, California - after being diagnosed with strep throat and then testing positive for Covid.

He was also diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2001 after a routine CAT scan, but he had the tumour removed, later making a full recovery.

The singer-songwriter has said before that this tour will be the last of his huge world productions - but that he has no plans to retire soon.

And he confirmed he is looking to perform at more intimate venues for his next tour slated for 2026, following the release of album Swing Fever with Jools Holland last year.

“This will be the end of large scale world tours for me, but I have no desire to retire,” Stewart said when the One Last Time tour dates were announced.

“I love what I do, and I do what I love. I’m fit, have a full head of hair, and can run 100 metres in 18 seconds,” he added.

He then said “I’d like to move onto a Great American Songbook, Swing Fever tour the year after next – smaller venues and more intimacy”.

“But then again, I may not…” he added, signing off the statement as “The Ambiguous Sir Rod Stewart”.

The London-born star has also been headlining a new residency in Las Vegas which will run until June at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

His European tour will end on May 13 at the MEO Arena in Lisbon, Portugal, while his final North American tour date is scheduled for August 15 at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in St Louis, Missouri.
