Rod Stewart calls Penny Lancaster the 'most gorgeous woman ever in his life'

Sir Rod Stewart has described his wife Penny Lancaster as the "most gorgeous woman" that he has ever had in his life.

The 76-year-old has just released his thirty-second album, the Tears of Hercules, which features several original tracks including love song I Can't Imagine - written for his wife.

In the chorus of the track, which was co-written by Rod, he sings: "I can't imagine walking up with anybody else but you."

Speaking to the Press Association about the album, the dad-of-eight said that the song actually went "right over" his wife's head when he introduced her to the track.

The Grammy-winning artist commented: "The first time it went around it went right over her head until I said, 'you have to listen to the lyrics, my love.' Then she got it."

Rod suggested that the message of the song is that Penny - his third wife - is "hopefully the final wife," with the singer-songwriter subsequently teasing: "I can't afford any more!"

The Maggie May singer then praised his wife - a model and Loose Women panelist - stating: "No, she is absolutely the most gorgeous woman I have ever had in my life."

Penny, who has two children with Rod, recently qualified as a special police constable - with the 50-year-old spotted on the frontline in London over the summer.

It's understood that she decided to join the force after taking part in Channel 4 series Famous and Fighting Crime in 2019 - which saw five celebrities work as officers.

It was revealed last month that her husband Rod - who she married in 2007 - has difficulty sleeping whilst she's working, as she worries about her safety.
