Rod Stewart asks Newcastle crowd what they think of Steve Bruce Newcastle United rumours

Football fan Rod Stewart couldn't resist asking his Newcastle crowd what they thought of former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce being linked with the top job at St James' Park.

During an interlude between songs at his , the Celtic-supporting 74-year-old mentioned his team's victory in a Champions League qualifier away to FK Sarajevo, before taking the opportunity to gauge the audience's thoughts on the rumoured comings and goings up the road at St James' Park.

Rod was performing on the day bookies' odds were slashed on Corbridge-born Steve Bruce getting the managers' job at St James' Park, following Rafa Benitez's departure.

He asked the Arena audience what they think of Bruce - and you can see their reaction in the video above.

It's fair to say Bruce would be - in the kindest terms - a controversial choice for the job, given his previous employment at the Stadium of Light.

During Bruce's term as Sunderland manager, the Black Cats were thrashed 5-1 by Newcastle in October 2010.

Bruce himself has distanced himself from the Newcastle job, saying he is focused on his position at Sheffield Wednesday .
