Rod Stewart and wife Penny glam up for festive snap with their teenage son

Sir Rod Stewart and his wife Penny put their best festive gladrags on and posed for a snap with their teenage son Alastair.

The 76-year-old enjoyed spending Christmas with his entire family and shared the celebrations on his Instagram page.

The Maggie May singer posted the picture of him and his 50-year-old wife and their 16-year-old son Alastair Stewart standing by the lit-up tree.

Penny dressed up to the nines in a blue sequinned dress that shimmered and had a slit on the thigh. Alastair kept it cosy in a simple white jumper, black trousers and a thing grey scarf.

Meanwhile, Sir Rod looked suave in a brown blazer and trousers, a checked waistcoat, a white button-up shirt and a red tie.

Instead of wearing shoes to go with the out, Sir Rod opted for sheepskin boots to keep himself cosy during the celebrations.

Penny recently shared a snap from another Christmas celebration (penny.lancaster/Instagram)

Her sons Alastair and 10-year-old Aiden Patrick Stewart looked classy in black suits as they posed with their mum.

"My boys are all grown up #christmas #sons," she captioned the post.

Fans had taken to the comment section to compliment the family and wish them a Merry Christmas.

"Perfect styling like their dad," one fan said of the boys' outfits, while another said: "Beautiful pic of you and your handsome boys!! Wishing you a merry Christmas and wonderful new year!"

Sir Rod recently performed at The Royal Variety Performance last week but fans were less than impressed.

Viewers at home witnessed the event - hosted by Alan Carr and attended by Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - and took to social media to complain about Rod's set.

He performed One More Time from his latest album The Tears of Hercules.

Rod also sang at the Royal Variety Performance (ITV)

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: "No thanks. Got as far as Rod Stewart and that's enough. #RoyalVarietyPerformance."

Another person tweeted: "That was AWFUL sir!#RoyalVarietyPerformance

A third viewer posted: "@ ITV anyone else just had third party embarrassment watching Rod Stewart? Please call it a day Rod, please. #RoyalVarietyPerformance."

And a fourth added: "Rod Stewart....I literally have no words for that performance #RoyalVarietyPerformance."
