Rockets waive McDowell-White to make room for Ryan Anderson

The Houston Rockets are waiving rookie guard William McDowell-White to create a roster spot for newly acquired sharpshooter Ryan Anderson, according to the Houston Chronicle‘s Jonathan Feigen.

Reports leaked Wednesday that Anderson — who previously played with the Rockets for two seasons, from 2016 through 2018 — had agreed to a deal to return to the team. Over 138 regular-season games (122 starts) in those years, the 6-foot-10 forward averaged 11.6 points (39.6% on three-pointers) and 4.8 rebounds in 27.8 minutes per game.

However, since Houston was already at the NBA’s maximum limit of 20 players heading into 2019-20 training camps, one player had to be released in order to add the 31-year-old Anderson.

According to Feigen, that player will be the 6-foot-5 McDowell-White. The 21-year-old guard is well regarded for his size, passing, and defensive ability. After being ruled academically ineligible at Fresno State University, the Australia native spent most of his time the last two years with Baunach in Germany’s second division.

A foot injury limited McDowell-White to just seven games last season. In those games, he averaged 10.4 points, 5.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.1 steals in 23.3 minutes.
