Rockets to work out veteran guard Jared Cunningham this week

With training camp set to begin in late September, the Houston Rockets are looking to add more depth to their 2019-20 roster.

According to ESPN’s Marc Spears, the Rockets are scheduled to work out former NBA guard Jared Cunningham later this week.

After he was drafted as the No. 24 overall pick in 2012, Cunningham’s basketball career would best be defined as a journeyman. Over the course of four NBA seasons, the 28-year-old — known best for his athleticism and perimeter defense — has played for six different teams (Mavericks, Hawks, Kings, Clippers, Cavaliers, and Bucks).

In those stops, Cunningham has averaged 2.3 points on 34.7% shooting in 7.2 minutes per game. His last NBA stint came during the 2015-16 season as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks, where he appeared in four games.

Cunningham spent last season playing overseas for Basket Brescia Leonessa in Italy’s Serie A, averaging 13.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game on 37.8 percent shooting from the field.

Prior to his time in Italy, the 6-foot-4 shooting guard also played professionally in Germany and China.
