Rockets to use Friday’s preseason finale at San Antonio as dress rehearsal

After giving more minutes to developmental prospects such as Usman Garuba and Josh Christopher on Monday, the Houston Rockets will finish up the preseason on Friday with an eye toward the regular season.

According to head coach Stephen Silas, the Rockets will use Friday’s game at San Antonio as a dress rehearsal for their 2021-22 regular season, which begins next Wednesday at Minnesota. That means giving the vast majority of minutes to players who will likely play once the games count, and with rotation patterns similar to the regular season.

The lone exceptions could be veteran guard Eric Gordon (left ankle) and big man Daniel Theis (knee), who are each questionable with minor injuries. Kevin Porter Jr., Jalen Green, and Christian Wood will all start for a fourth consecutive exhibition, while the other two starters are likely to depend in part on whether Theis and Gordon are available.

Friday’s tipoff between the Rockets (1-2) and Spurs (2-2) is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Central from the AT&T Center, with the game broadcast via AT&T SportsNet Southwest to the usual Houston markets.
