Rockets to sign veteran defensive forward Thabo Sefolosha

Veteran forward Thabo Sefolosha has agreed to sign with the Houston Rockets, as first reported by Marc Stein of The New York Times. The contract is for one year at the NBA’s league minimum salary, according to the Houston Chronicle‘s Jonathan Feigen.

The 2019-20 season will be Sefolosha’s 14th in the NBA. Now 35 years old, the 6-foot-7 forward is best known for his perimeter defense and long wingspan, which the Rockets have clearly targeted this offseason with rumored pursuits of players such as Andre Iguodala.

Sefolosha averaged 3.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 12.2 minutes per game last season with the Utah Jazz. Twitter user @Itamar1710 compiled a video highlight thread of Sefolosha from last season.

For his career, Sefolosha is a 35.2% shooter from behind the three-point arc. However, in 50 games last season, he actually connected on 43.6% from deep — the second-highest figure of his career.

While Sefolosha has not previously played in Houston, he did play three seasons with James Harden and parts of six seasons with Russell Westbrook as members of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Sefolosha was reportedly one of several veteran free agents to attend this week’s minicamp with current Rockets players in Las Vegas.

Sefolosha was born in Switzerland, making him the second Swiss player on the Houston roster after starting center Clint Capela.
