Rockets sign guard Chris Chiozza for rest of season

The Houston Rockets announced Saturday that they have signed guard Chris Chiozza for the remainder of the season.

Chiozza had signed a 10-day contract earlier this season with the Rockets as a way of filling Houston’s 14 player roster spot requirement. This is likely the primary reason Chiozza was signed again. Houston fulfilled their requirement of nabbing a 13th player with the signing of forward Danuel House and it was only a matter of time before they signed another player to fill their CBA roster requirements.

The Florida standout averaged 13.2 points, 7.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.8 steals on 54.2% true shooting in the G League. Chiozza didn’t shoot particularly well at the rim, but he’s a career 40.9% three-point shooter in the G League.

With guards James Harden, Chris Paul, Eric Gordon, Iman Shumpert, and Austin Rivers already on the roster for Houston, it’s unlikely he sees any playing time for the team this season. It’s interesting that Houston chose to sign Chiozza as opposed to signing someone else when they did or even signing him to a longer term contract, but general manager Daryl Morey and the Rockets’ from office have earned their benefit of the doubt.
