Due to a strained hamstring suffered early in Houston’s third summer league game, rookie sensation Jalen Green was unavailable to the Rockets for more than half of their total playing time in Las Vegas.
Nonetheless, in barely over two games, the No. 2 overall pick from the 2021 NBA draft still made quite a first impression. In limited playing time of 24 minutes per game, the 6-foot-6 guard averaged 20.3 points and 4.3 rebounds on blistering shooting percentages of 51.3% from the field, 52.6% on 3-pointers, and 92.8% on free throws. Best of all, Houston won with relative ease in both games where Green was a full participant.
As a result, even with extremely limited playing time, Green still showed enough to earn a spot on the NBA’s All-Summer League second team alongside No. 1 overall draft pick Cade Cunningham (of Detroit). All of the selections were voted on by a league media panel.
With summer league in the books, the 19-year-old now has a few weeks to rest his ailing right hamstring before training camp for the 2021-22 season begins for the Rockets in late September.
