Rockets provide ‘Taco Tuesday’ to Houston Food Bank volunteers

Led by CEO Tad Brown, Rockets employees visited the Houston Food Bank on Tuesday to show appreciation for volunteers at the facility.

Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta commissioned the “Taco Me Crazy” food truck from his local Cadillac Bar restaurant to provide a “Taco Tuesday” lunch for volunteers at the warehouse in East Houston.

In remarks from the Houston Food Bank, which has seen surging demand amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Brown said:

During this pandemic, it’s more important than ever to redouble our efforts. We need to make sure that we’re not only contributing so that people can get the food they need, but to really appreciate the volunteers who are coming out here and taking care of those in the most need during this really troubling time.

It’s important to Tilman, it’s important to the entire Fertitta family, and our organization to come out and help any way we can. It’s an honor to be here.

The Houston Food Bank is the largest U.S. food bank, with a distribution network of 1,500 community partners in 18 southeast Texas counties. They provide 122 million meals to food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, and other agencies, feeding 800,000 people each year.
