Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta claps back at ‘fraud’ reporter after budget cut tweet

Tilman Fertitta, who owns the Houston Rockets, is not pleased about a post on Twitter that the team will be making drastic budget cuts.

After Brian Geltzeiler of HoopsCritic.com reported that Fertitta is “feverishly cutting costs in all facets of the Rockets organization” early Wednesday afternoon, the owner responded directly to him and dubbed a “fraud.”

As RocketsWire has previously reported, general manager Daryl Morey dropped the team’s payroll from $135.41 million before the start of the season to $122.855 million after the Feb. 7 trade deadline. Though the Rockets are paying into the luxury tax, that bill is a sensible $12 million, compared to the $21 million it set to be before the 2018-19 season started.

Fertitta, who is worth an estimated $4.5 billion, is the chairman, CEO, and sole owner of Landry’s, Inc., one of the largest restaurant corporations in the country. He bought the Rockets for $2.2 billion in September 2017.
