Rockets injury report: Victor Oladipo out, PJ Tucker questionable for Saturday

Rockets guard Victor Oladipo (sore right foot) will miss Saturday’s game at New York, while forward PJ Tucker (bruised left thigh) is questionable, according to Friday’s update by Houston coach Stephen Silas.

Both veterans appeared to be injured during Thursday’s home loss to Miami. Each player initially tried to play through his injury before retreating to the locker room during an ill-fated third quarter.

Prior to Thursday’s shortened appearance, Oladipo was Houston’s leading scorer (19.6 points per game) among active players. For the 2020-21 season overall, Christian Wood is the top scorer and rebounder for the Rockets, but he remains out indefinitely with a right ankle sprain.

Silas said after Friday’s practice that additional tests were being run on Oladipo’s foot. However, Silas does expect Oladipo to travel with the Rockets on the road trip, which could offer hope for his return on Monday in Washington or Wednesday in Philadelphia. As long as Oladipo is sidelined, Eric Gordon will start in his place at shooting guard.

As for Tucker, the veteran defensive ace did not practice Friday due to his left thigh contusion. Silas said that he would travel with the team, and a decision on his availability would be made closer to Saturday’s tipoff against the Knicks. Tucker has the NBA’s longest active consecutive games streak at 266 games, and he hasn’t missed a single regular-season or postseason game since signing with the Rockets in July 2017.

Saturday’s game between the Rockets (11-14) and Knicks (11-15) is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. Central tipoff. Houston enters with four straight losses and badly needs a win to stop the recent slide.
