Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. clearly isn’t a fan of the overall rating of 77 given to him by developers of the popular NBA 2K video game franchise. Players across the league are rated on a 1-to-100 scale in numerous categories, including a frequently disputed “overall” rating.
For NBA 2K22, which comes out later this year as the new edition of the game for the 2021-22 season, the rating for Porter Jr. was lower than multiple rookies who have yet to even play in the league.
In response to that, Porter Jr. tweeted this to Ronnie “Ronnie2K” Singh, the director of sports business operations at NBA 2K Sports:
You got rookies rank higher than me? Can you validate that?
In a separate tweet, Porter Jr. said his rating should be “in the 80s.”
Just 21 years old and a clear rising talent, Porter Jr. averaged 16.6 points, 6.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds during 2020-21, his second NBA season and first with the Rockets. In one of his final games, Porter Jr. had a historic game with 50 points and 11 assists versus eventual NBA champion Milwaukee, which offers hope that better days could soon be ahead.
The NBA 2K team doesn’t appear convinced just yet, but Porter Jr. and others around the league — including Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant, who knows a few things about strong guard play — seem to disagree.
