Houston Rockets guard Ben McLemore, who has been away from the team since at least Tuesday, offered a positive update to his Instagram page on Sunday. “I’m in isolation and am feeling great,” he wrote.
“I’ve been working remotely with the team to stay engaged and as ready as possible,” McLemore added. “I can’t wait to get back out there with my teammates. I’m beyond ready for this season, and am looking forward to all the things I know we can accomplish. Stay safe and blessed.”
McLemore reportedly tested positive for COVID-19, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, and the Rockets began listing him as self-isolating on Tuesday. Per the NBA’s health and safety protocols, here are the steps required before the 27-year-old guard can rejoin his teammates:
- At least 12 days have passed since his first positive test, or the conclusion of any symptoms, whichever comes later;
- The player is asymptomatic, and there are no clinical concerns about reinfection;
- A team-designated physician has cleared the player to return;
- The team doctor has reviewed the case with a league doctor, who does not object to the findings.
As a result of those requirements, the timetable for McLemore rejoining the Rockets isn’t exactly clear. However, Sunday’s update should offer hope that things are moving in the right direction.
McLemore averaged 10.1 points last season in 22.8 minutes per game off the Houston bench, and his 40.0% clip on 3-pointers led the team.
