Rockets expect John Wall to miss fourth straight game with sore knee

According to Houston’s latest injury report, John Wall is out for Wednesday night’s home game versus the Phoenix Suns. It will be the fourth straight game that the veteran point guard has missed, with the Rockets consistently listing “left knee soreness” as the ailment.

The Rockets didn’t practice on Tuesday’s off day, so the official injury report was the only update. Head coach Stephen Silas last spoke about the issue at Sunday’s practice, noting that it is not a long-term concern.

“I don’t believe it’s a long-term type deal, from the information I’m getting from the performance staff,” Silas said. “It seems like a day-to-day thing. It wasn’t a specific injury, it’s something just kind of popped up. They’re managing it, he’s moving around, but we’re being cautious.”

Wall did travel with the team on its recent road trip to San Antonio and Chicago and has maintained a leadership role from the bench. Wall last played on Tuesday, Jan. 12 versus the Los Angeles Lakers and struggled, scoring just 10 points (36.4% shooting) in 30 minutes.

Like Wall, Danuel House Jr. (self-isolation) also remains out, with no timetable yet for his potential return. Sterling Brown (right lower leg soreness) is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game, which tips off at 8:30 p.m. Central from Toyota Center in Houston.

Wall is averaging 18.6 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.7 rebounds in 33.9 minutes per game this season, and he’s shooting a career-high 45.4% from the field. Including two earlier games that Wall missed due to a mandatory quarantine, the Rockets are 1-4 in five games without him.
