Rockets’ Eric Gordon has withdrawn from Team USA training camp

Playing for Team USA is always an honor that plenty of players welcome. Playing for your country and representing a nation of people is always one of the greatest honors for any athlete.

Sometimes though, it does get to be a bit too much.

For Houston Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon, he had committed to play for Team USA in the upcoming FIBA World Cup in August, but has now withdrawn from training camp as first reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Gordon averaged 16.2 points and 2.2 rebounds while shooting 36 percent from deep in 68 games with Houston in 2018-19 and one can assume that he would much rather rest up for a potential title run in 2019-20. With the addition of superstar Russell Westbrook, the Rockets will take another crack at a title.

With the Golden State Warriors going through some changes and not expected to be the juggernaut they have been in the past, the Rockets have as great a chance as ever to finally get to the NBA Finals.

Now is the time to rest up and get ready for another season of great expectations in Space City.
