Rockets coach Stephen Silas reflects on Travis Scott concert tragedy

In heartfelt remarks regarding the recent tragedy at Travis Scott’s Astroworld music festival in Houston, Rockets head coach Stephen Silas reflected on the eight deaths and added some personal perspective.

According to Silas, his two daughters — who are 17 and 14 years old — had wanted to attend, but ultimately did not. In comments issued prior to Sunday’s late game between the Rockets and Warriors, Silas said:

I wanted to start off by acknowledging the eight people who were killed in Houston at the concert. Ages 14 to 27, I believe. I have two daughters — one of which is 14, one is 17 — and I can’t even imagine. They wanted to go to the concert and didn’t go.

It’s just a really hard thing, so I wanted to acknowledge those eight people and tell (their loved ones) that our thoughts and prayers are with them. Because that was so, so tragic. To have daughters that age, I can’t even imagine what those families are going through.

The latest details on the tragedy and its fallout are available at usatoday.com. Prior to the Nov. 5 incident, the Rockets had planned a special “Travis Scott Night” for their home game on Wednesday, Nov. 10 with a themed t-shirt giveaway, but that seems to have been scrapped — with all prior posts and references deleted after last Friday’s tragedy.
