Rockets begin trimming roster by waiving Frazier, Blossomgame

The Houston Rockets are waiving Jaron Blossomgame and Michael Frazier as they begin the process of narrowing their roster for the 2019-20 regular season. The moves were first reported Thursday by The Athletic‘s Kelly Iko and Alykhan Bijani.

Blossomgame, a 6-foot-7, 26-year-old forward, averaged 4.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 13.0 minutes per game this preseason. He is best known for his wing defense and length. The Rockets do not currently hold his G League rights.

Meanwhile, Frazier — a 6-foot-4, 25-year-old guard — did not play in the preseason and missed significant time in training camp due to a right ankle sprain. Frazier was named the G League’s Most Improved Player last season, when he averaged 16.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game for Rockets’ affiliate Rio Grande Valley.

The Vipers will again have Frazier’s G League rights this season, assuming he is not signed by another NBA team.

NBA teams are allowed to have up to 20 players in training camp, but can only carry a maximum of 15 players under standard contracts and two Two-Way players. With Houston’s 2019-20 regular season set to begin next Thursday, the Rockets will be finalizing their roster with further moves over the coming days.
