Rockets, assistant coach Roy Rogers part ways

The coaching staff changes are continuing in Houston.

Assistant coach Roy Rogers is the latest member of the Rockets coaching staff who will not be returning next season.

Last week, the Rockets parted ways with defensive guru Jeff Bzdelik in what was viewed as a very surprising move.

The former power forward actually spent time as a player in the NBA, having played for the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors and Denver Nuggets. Rogers also had a few seasons playing abroad before joining the world of coaching as an assistant 2013 for the Brooklyn Nets.

Rogers, 45, joined the staff in 2016 when Mike D’Antoni was hired as head coach. He, like Bzdelik, was known as being a defense guy.

The departure of both Rogers and Bzdelik come after the Rockets were again eliminated from the NBA playoffs at the hands of the Golden State Warriors.

There was high speculation that D’Antoni would be first to go — but he is currently talking about an extension with the team ahead of the final year of his contract.
