SCOTTISH rockers Del Amitri are set to entertain the Tartan Army in the United States this summer with two World Cup-themed shows featuring a former footballer on DJ decks.
The Glaswegian quintet has announced they are heading out to the US this June, for a run of summer shows including two gigs around Scotland’s first two World Cup group games in Boston and Providence.
Playing under the home-from-home banner of “The Flying Haggis Supper Club”, the shows will feature special guests, including Pat Nevin on the decks in Boston.
Best known for tracks like Roll To Me and Nothing Ever Happens, the band also penned the official Scotland team song Don’t Come Home Too Soon for the 1998 France World Cup.
Despite splitting up in 2002, with singer Justin Currie embarking on a run of acclaimed solo albums, the band officially regrouped in 2021, releasing a well-received comeback album, Fatal Mistakes.
Since then, Currie has written a Sunday Times best-selling memoir, The Tremolo Diaries: Life On The Road And Other Diseases, which tells the tale of life on the road after being diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2022.
In August, Currie said in an interview that he is finding it “very hard” to play guitar now because of the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
He told BBC Breakfast at the time: “It’s hard to navigate. It’s hard knowing what kind of nick you’re going to be in from gig to gig.
“And you also fear that at some point you’re going to be standing on stage and you’ll just have to put your hands up and go, ‘I can’t really do this anymore’.”
However, Del Amitri is now preparing for their new album release, with the two dates in the US part of the run-up to the launch.
The band will play The Strand in Providence on June 17 and Royale in Boston on June 18.
Del Amitri announced last month that they will end 2026 with a full-scale UK run in November and December.
