Rockcliffe residents out in force to clean rubbish off the beaches

There was a fantastic turnout of volunteers recently to clean the beaches around Rockcliffe.

A WhatsApp group to keep everyone connected during lockdown has generated a strong sense of community and the clean-up was a chance to get together and harness the goodwill and willingness to get involved in local projects, with support also coming from folk in Colvend.

Many of the larger items had been collected during lockdown walks but there was a concerted effort to pick up all the pieces of micro plastic and twine that are harmful to wildlife.

A separate group concentrated on clearing from Castle Point to Glenstocken where many years’ worth of debris washed up by the sea was collected and hauled up the cliff.

The amount collected was quite satisfying and the community is grateful for the support of the council in providing bags and pickers as well as removing the rubbish promptly.

The next village group activity is to start clearing the coastal paths.
