Rock legends The Who coming to the 3Arena in Dublin

Rock icons The Who are returning to Dublin with a full orchestra  for their first Irish show in five years.

The My Generation hit-makers will return to the  3Arena  on Wednesday, 18 March 2020, marking their first appearance at the dockside venue since 2015.

The legendary rockers  sold over 100 million records worldwide and played well over 2,000 gigs in a career spanning over 50 years including venues such as Woodstock, Monterey Pop,  Glastonbury , Hyde Park, the Isle Of Wight and Live Aid, Dublin Live reports.

The band will release a new album, titled WHO, in Novemeber. This will be the group's first album in 13 years.

The songs on WHO cover a range of subjects including the Grenfell Tower fire, musical theft, spirituality, reincarnation, the power of memory and ‘an old rock star that has lost his marbles’.

Singer Roger Daltrey rates it amongst the band's strongest work.

He said: “I think we’ve made our best album since Quadrophenia in 1973, Pete hasn’t lost it, he’s still a fabulous songwriter, and he’s still got that cutting edge."

Guitarist Pete Townshend added: "This album is almost all new songs written last year, with just two exceptions.

"There is no theme, no concept, no story, just a set of songs that I (and my brother Simon) wrote to give Roger Daltrey some inspiration, challenges and scope for his newly revived singing voice.

"Roger and I are both old men now, by any measure, so I’ve tried to stay away from romance, but also from nostalgia if I can.

"I didn’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Memories are okay, and some of the songs refer to the explosive state of things today."

Tickets for The Who go on sale on Friday, September 20 at 10am from Ticketmaster.
