Rock fisher without life jacket drowns on NSW south coast

The rock fisher drowned after slipping from the rocks near Currarong.

A rock fisher has drowned after falling into the ocean without a life jacket in the Shoalhaven area on the New South Wales south coast.

The 25-year-old man fell into the water as he was walking to a fishing spot at Little Beecroft Head near Currarong this morning, NSW police said.

The man was unconscious when he surfaced, Shoalhaven LAC Inspector Ray Stynes said.

"Two of the other men jumped into the water to assist him using a nearby angel life ring," Inspector Stynes said.

The three men were rescued by Marine Rescue NSW and NSW Water Police assisted by a helicopter, but the man could not be revived.

The other two men who tried to save the 25-year-old have been taken to hospital to be treated for exposure.
