Rock City's 'sticky floor' now on general sale - here's how much each piece costs and how many are left

Since Rock City threw open its doors for the first time in December 1980, hundreds of thousands of people have stood on its floorboards to watch some of biggest names in music playing the main stage.

From U2 and The Smiths, Nirvana and David Bowie, to Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Rage Against The Machine, Korn, Oasis, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers and so many more.

After 39 years of service, the strips of Canadian maple were ripped up in January to be replaced by the floor a former basketball court.

Although they had planned to skip the lot, fans and bands hollered in great numbers to get their hands on a piece of UK rock history.

So the Talbot Street venue's owners enlisted Darren Shaw, of the Basford based Jabba’s Designs, to transform the sticky alcohol -soaked floorboards into desirable keepsakes. Hours of cleaning, soaking, sanding and sawing transformed the infamously tacky main hall dancefloor into thousands of small wooden plaques brandishing the venue's moniker.

5,000 pieces have been created and went on sale last Friday (May 3) to those who had registered to buy one during the pre-sale.

2,500 were snapped up and now the rest have gone on general sale.
