Rock stars Muse brought entire kitchen and personal chef to Glastonbury

Glastonbury-goers could be accused of packing everything, including the kitchen sink, for the five-day festival, but Muse went a step further when they headlined in 2016.

The rock group brought an entire kitchen with them – complete with their own personal chef.

The rockers, fronted by Matt Bellamy, had their own temporary dining service erected backstage to serve up their grub ahead of their performance.

Festival boss Emily Eavis reveals: “Muse brought their own kitchen, their own chef and kitchen area that we built.”

The Glastonbury organiser says “quite a few” artists bring their own chef, but adds that “most people” are happy with the onsite catering which is provided for the performers.

This year’s festival had been due to take place this weekend, and would have marked the 50th anniversary of the first event.

Headliners in 2020 were to be Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar. Emily says she was “devastated” to be forced to cancel the event, due to coronavirus.

The BBC will mark the 50th anniversary by showing classic performances from years gone by.

After that, Emily vows: “We will be on to next year.”

Next year’s performers can assume the catering will be up to scratch, as the festival site Worthy Farm – a dairy farm – is making its cheese available nationwide. Emily tells the Table Manners podcast: “It will be available in the Co-op soon.”

Maybe headliners should still bring their own fridges.
