Rochester mass shooting: Two dead and 14 injured after gun fire at 'illegal party'

A man and a woman have died and at least 14 others were wounded in a mass shooting at a house party in Rochester, New York.

Police were scrambled to the scene shortly after midnight following reports of shots being fired.

The victims, who have not been identified, were between 18 and 22, investigators confirmed.

The shooters are still believed to be at large.

A witness told 13WHAM News that the gunfire sounded "like the Vietnam War".

Interim Police Chief Mark Simmons described the scene when officers arrived as "chaotic".

He told BNO: “It appears to be some type of backyard party that the police department, up until the point the 9-1-1 calls came in for the shots fired, was not aware of."

He confirmed that no arrests have been made.

Journalist Tyler Brown described distraught loved ones of the victims arriving at the scene.

He posted on Twitter: "Family members around me are crying and consoling each other."

The Rochester Police Department posted on Twitter : "Major Crimes is on the scene of a mass shooting on Pennsylvania Ave. @ there are fatalities."
