Rochelle Hulmes sticks up for mum who had to breastfeed her child on a ‘filthy’ train floor

This Morning presenter Rochelle Hulmes stuck up for a mum who received criticism for speaking out about having breastfeed her child on a ‘filthy train floor’.

Sophie Molineux, 22, appeared on the ITV show to explain how no one on a busy train offered her a seat when she fed her one-year-old son Chester.

She told Rochelle and co-host Davina McCall: “I got on the train and it was full so we didn’t really have much choice at all.”

When asked about the demographic of the passengers, Sophie said that teenagers sat in the priority seats and said her and her boyfriend “didn’t feel like we could approach them”.

She added that all other passengers “pretended I wasn’t there”.

Journalist Lottie Daley, who appeared with Sophie, added that the same thing happened to her just three weeks ago, and described Britain’s attitude on breastfeeding as ‘disgusting’.

Mum-of-two Rochelle - who opened up about her own struggle to breastfeed her first child - wholeheartedly agreed with Lottie, saying it is the “most natural thing in the world”.

She said: “I hope we get to a point where, as mothers, we can stop judging other mothers.”

Sophie was travelling from Shropshire to Ludlow with partner Rob Moore and their one-year-old son Chester Moore on Tuesday when they struggled to find a seat.

Following the incident, Sophie spoke of her experience, saying: “I was so shocked. There were around 50 people in the carriage and not one person moved.

“We were stood in the aisle with seats either side of us so both sides of the train could see us stood there and no-one moved.

“Chester’s now at an age that when he wants to breastfeed he just tugs at my top and makes it very obvious, it was one of those where I just had to breastfeed him.

“Obviously I’d rather not sit on the dirty floor of a moving train breastfeeding him, it wasn’t the nicest place, but I didn’t really have much choice.”

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10.30 on ITV.
