Robson Green takes fans inside Sam Fender's Newcastle gig as he captures incredible atmosphere

Robson Green has heaped praise on 'awesome' Sam Fender and the Newcastle crowd as he captured the epic atmosphere at the Brit winner's first Newcastle gig week.

Soldier Soldier and Grantchester actor Robson and Seventeen Going Under star Sam have become firm friends over the past few years, with Sam and his band even joining Robson and his Grantchester castmate Tom Brittney on a fishing trip up the coast last year, with the pair then returning the favour by appearing as Sam's backing band in the video for his track Howdon Aldi Death Queue.

Speaking about Sam during an appearance on Lorraine last month, Robson said: "He's the most gorgeous man and what a talent and what an ambassador for the North East. I can't speak highly of him enough."

And, this week, Robson joined the likes of Newcastle United stars Dan Burn and Kieran Trippier in the packed audience for Sam's first of two homecoming gigs at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle. Magpies player Kieran took to Twitter to share what an 'incredible' night he'd had at the show, while also winding up Sunderland in the process.

Robson was equally blown away by the amazing atmosphere inside the arena, particularly when Sam and his band arrived on stage to the strains of Geordie anthem Local Hero ands for the Hypersonic Missiles encore. Sharing his video on Instagram, Robson wrote: "So many superlatives could describe the Sam Fender gig tonight but only one word springs to mind. ‘Awesome!’ So much love from everyone for you tonight and every night boys."

One of his followers who was also there, replied: "It was brilliant. The lads smashed it. I just wish i had a ticket to go back again tonight. And yes they were absolutely awesome!" A second reacted: "He deserves every bit of success that's coming his way. Unbelievable songwriter and amazing performer."
