The latest announcement from Roblox confirms that there will be a mandatory age verification on the platform for all users, regardless of age.
Text and voice chats on the platform will temporarily be unavailable until users complete required verification.
'Roblox' Requires Mandatory Age Verification Now
Roblox Corporation has shared a new blog post on their latest security measures for the platform. These security measures will now require all users to submit to a mandatory age verification.
The new age verification requirement would be applied to both adults and underage users of the platform. Verification must be completed as it is a requirement for them to access the communication features available on the platform.
"We're taking this step as part of our long-term vision as a platform for all ages," said Roblox Corporation's Chief Safety Officer, Matt Kaufman. "We expect that our approach to communication safety will become best practice for other online platforms, whether lawmakers pass laws requiring age verification for all platforms in the future or not."
According to Engadget, this follows the recent rollout in July that brought an age verification option amongst teen accounts, particularly in getting access to selected chat features.
Verification Required for Text, Voice Chats Access
There are multiple layers to "Roblox's" new age verification program. First, it will require user accounts to take a selfie and submit it for verification. It will also require users to submit valid identification from a list of accepted or supported IDs.
It was revealed that the Roblox Corporation and its partners would process the submitted files pertaining to the age verification program before granting access to text or voice chats.
Additionally, for accounts below the legal age of 18, they would also have to submit a supplementary verified parental consent as part of the requirements before they get approved.
This new age verification program, paired with its child protection policies and other forms of safety features, is set to transform "Roblox" for a safer experience.
