A new documentary, Robin’s Wish, will recount the final days in the life of the late Robin Williams.
The beloved comedian and actor died by suicide aged 63 in 2014.
Robin’s Wish, which includes interviews with the star’s widow Susan Schneider Williams as well as friends and colleagues, will explore the neurodegenerative disorder that the actor was struggling with before he died.
Lewy Body Dementia is one of the most common types of the disease. According to a professor of neurology quoted in the documentary, it increases anxiety, self-doubt and causes delusions.
In the trailer, people who worked with Williams can be heard discussing how the actor was not himself in the lead up to his death.
David E Kelley – who created Williams’ last ever TV show, The Crazy Ones – says: “There was something eroding within him.”
Schneider Williams adds: “My husband had unknowingly been battling a deadly disease. Nearly every region of his brain was under attack – he experienced himself disintegrating.”
In 2015, Schneider Williams said that although her husband suffered from depression, she blames his death on his dementia.
Williams starred in classic films such as Mrs Doubtfire, Good Morning Vietnam and Disney’s Aladdin. He won an Oscar for his supporting role as a psychologist in Good Will Hunting.
Robin’s Wish debuts on demand and digital on 1 September.
