Robin Ventura planning to rest David Robertson against Orioles

May 28--BALTIMORE -- White Sox closer David Robertson was one of the few bright spots of the Sox's rough start, making 12 appearances without allowing an earned run until his first blown save on May 10th against the Reds.

But Robertson had blown saves in his last two outings on Tuesday and Wednesday in Toronto, where Josh Donaldson homered off him to win Tuesday's game and send Wednesday's into extra innings. Robertson came back to throw one more inning Wednesday after the Sox took the lead in the tenth, and got the win.

Manager Robin Ventura said Robertson probably won't be used in this afternoon's doubleheader.

"The chances of him going in are pretty slim, but you never know," Ventura said.

Robertson, of course, wants to get back out there today in a closing situation.

"Even (Wednesday) he liked the opportunity to go back out for the second inning," Ventura said. "You never know how they're doing, but he's probably not going to be in there. And any time you say 'probably not going to be in there' we'll probably end up in extra innings in one of these games and he'll be used."

Robertson has allowed six earned runs in his last eight outings. Is there any reason he's struggled after being so dominant the first six weeks?

Ventura said the only thing to point to is Donaldson.

"He seems to be pretty good," he said of the Blue Jays' slugger. "I used to be a fan of his. Now I'm not. Take away that guy and (Robertson) probably would've closed them out. He's done it long enough. You sit there and allow him to process it and go through and see where he's at. But he still has good stuff. He's still the closer. It's hard to get through this without getting nicked up.

"There are very few guys in the bullpen that go through it without getting a gunshot. That's gonna happen. Mentality-wise, you like where he's at and how he's responded."
