Robin van Persie sends injury advice to Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford

Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has recommended Marcus Rashford takes a ‘proper rest’ as he recovers from injury.

Rashford suffered a double stress fracture in his back during the FA Cup third round replay against Wolves, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted it is ‘touch and go’ whether he will play again this season.

The 22-year-old was in the midst of his best form for United before injury struck, having scored 19 goals in all competitions this season.

Van Persie, who helped United win their last Premier League title in 2013, was speaking to BT Sport ahead of their clash with Club Brugge in the Europa League and said: “He should take a proper rest, like literally sit down on his sofa, rest for the next couple of weeks and let it heal.

“You have to look at it in two stages. The first bit, six to eight weeks, is doing nothing and then the next eight weeks is to get back to fitness again.

“You really have to see it in two stages and for him, he has to think about his future because he is the future of Manchester United.”

The Dutchman also told BT Sport of how he suffered a similar injury as a young player: “I had it [same injury as Rashford] when I was 19.

“I was out for three and a half months. He needs to be really careful with this injury because it's an overload injury.”
