Robin van Persie's lack of surprise at Serge Gnabry's rise following Arsenal exit

Former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has analysed Serge Gnabry's excellent rise with Bayern Munich, which has followed his exit from north London.

The Germany international worked his way through the ranks at the Emirates Stadium but his impact at Arsenal curtailed following an unsuccessful loan stint with West Brom.

He then returned to his homeland where, following an impressive stint with Werder Bremen, he earned himself a move to Bayern Munich and has shone in Bavaria.

Having played a starring role in the victory over Tottenham earlier this season, Gnabry caught the eye again last week in the 8-2 drubbing against Barcelona and Van Persie has given his view on his development.

"He was coming through and you could see that he had all the stuff you need to be a top player but he was still very young," he told BT Sport.

"He was fast, dribbling, he was playing in confidence but I don't think we played together at that time in the first-team, he was with the reserves and then shortly after that he went on loan to West Brom.

"Unbelievable that he struggled so much at West Brom and is now a world-class player at Bayern Munich. That's down to him, he's a joy to watch. He has it all. He's fast, he can dribble, his spatial awareness is good, he scores great goals."
