Robin van Persie noticed change in Nicolas Pepe after he scored brace in Arsenal win

Robin van Persie says Nicolas Pepe became "lively and happy" after scoring in Arsenal's 3-2 win over Vitoria in the Europa League.

The Gunners were trailing their Portuguese counterparts when £72million summer signing came off the bench at the Emirates.

Two magical free-kicks from the Ivorian turned the game on its head, with Pepe securing an unlikely victory for Arsenal with the final kick of the game.

On BT Sport, Van Persie hailed Pepe's impact and pointed out the change in his demeanour when his first free-kick hit the back of the net.

"I'm really happy for him. You can see what it does for him, even after the first free-kick," said the former Gunners forward.

"You could see he just became lively and happy, and he was making all sorts of movements and skills. Then it's great for him, even to score the winner as well.

"The price tag doesn't really matter. Whether it's £72million or £5million, you just need a moment to show everyone, the Arsenal fans, here I am.

"This is his day, this is his moment.

"We've been waiting for it for quite long but we could see he had stuff. We could see he was fast, we could see he was skillful.

"I'm pretty sure that after tonight you will see a different Pepe to the last couple of months."
