Robin van Persie name-drops Erling Haaland as he makes Alexandre Lacazette comparison

Robin van Persie has criticised Alexandre Lacazette's movement in front of goal - and has used Erling Haaland as an example of who he should learn from.

Arsenal striker Lacazette netted the only goal in the Gunners' 1-0 win over Olympiakos in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 clash on Thursday.

But the Frenchman was wasteful in the final third, missing three gilt-edged chances - two before his goal, and one after, which would have put the game to bed.

Van Persie praised Arsenal's counter attack that led to the goal, but was critical of Lacazette's movement for his subsequent miss.

"They should have [extended their lead] in the end. The last 15 minutes were really good and they created three or four really good chances," Van Persie told BT Sport.

"This is a nice counter-attack [leading up to Lacazette's chance] but this is what I want to talk about. This is not world-class, this particular action.

"His body movement is too close, it's too much towards the ball.|

Lacazette has been lacking in confidence in recent months, despite netting against both Newcastle and Olympiakos in Arsenal's past two fixtures.

Meanwhile, a man who is on fire at the moment is Dortmund striker Haaland, who helped his side make light-work of Paris Saint-Germain with two goals in the Champions League.

And Van Persie name-dropped the striker as an example of how you should open your body up in front of goal, when discussing Lacazette.

He added: "His [Lacazette's] body should be more open so he can have that slight touch, similar to the one Haaland had against PSG, sliding it through so you only need one touch.

"Lacazette needs two touches to get a shot in. He does well with the second touch but he needs an extra second. He knows what I mean.

"With the first touch he should put it at an angle where he only needs two or maximum three steps to have a clear shot. He didn't do it there."
