Robin van Persie explains why Manchester United shirt number was more special than at Arsenal

Robin van Persie says his shirt number at Manchester United was the most special one he wore during his time in English football.

Dutch great Van Persie spent eight years at Arsenal before he eventually sealed a move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2012 to play under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Van Persie had worn both the No.11 and No.10 during his time at Arsenal but found both of those numbers occupied by Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney respectively upon his arrival.

The new signing had a big decision to make and was eventually persuaded to take the No.20 shirt as he looked to inspire Untied to retaining the Premier League title.

Van Persie's impact was monumental as he finished as the club's top scorer and helped them to win their twentieth top-flight title with the same number on his back.

In an interview with SidKohliTV the United favourite was asked if he preferred wearing the No.10 at Arsenal or No.20 at Old Trafford, and he explained why the unorthodox number had a special meaning for him.

"I have to make a decision?" Van Persie replied.

"Well No.10, the number itself is nicer than 20...but it's the story with it that makes it special.

"I will go for 20 because that story has more impact."
