Robin van Persie compares Bukayo Saka to Arsenal legend after 'world class' Olympiacos assist

Former Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has heaped immense praise on Bukayo Saka, comparing the teenager to the club's iconic former striker Dennis Bergkamp.

Saka registered his ninth assist of the season after setting up Alexandre Lacazette for the only goal of the game in the Europa League trip to Olympiacos.

That saw the teenager shine once again, after excelling in the Premier League victory over Newcastle United, as he continues to impress for Mikel Arteta's side.

As a result, Van Persie has praised the teenager for his "world-class" assist and compared the Gunners' academy graduate to some legendary names.

Mikel Arteta on Pablo Mari's progress

"This type of pass, it's like what Ryan Giggs used to do, Dennis Bergkamp, Paul Scholes, this is like ordering your striker to move into the danger zone," he told BT Sport.

"It's absolutely world class, it's really, really good. He makes it look easy but this pass, like I said, only the great players can make those passes.

"An average player, most of the crosses there would be kicked away by the defender or would be without an idea but this is a pass with an idea."

Martin Keown echoed the praise for Saka, stating that he has provided an example to other young players looking to make their mark in the first-team.

"We shouldn't forget this young man is 18-years-of-age, he's coming through the academy and, I don't want to pick on [Nicolas] Pepe, but if you look at the assists, they're coming from the academy player," he added.

"He's got his chance. He's fortunate that he's even in the team but he's really taken his chance. [Sead] Kolasinac is on the bench watching on and having to suck it up.

"That's what you need, you take your chance when you get the opportunity, because Arteta has sent a message to the Arsenal players that if you're good enough, you'll stay in the team."
